Kristin Rivera
Kristen was born and raised in New Mexico and graduated from Taos High School in 2000. She attended the University of New Mexico and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2005. She taught in Albuquerque for 3 years before returning to Taos to teach here. This is her 19th year in education. Since becoming an educator, she has extended and expanded her teaching practice and has her TESOL endorsement (to teach students learning English as a second language). She also completed her coursework for a bilingual endorsement through Northern New Mexico University 2010, and completed her course work for her master's in elementary education at Eastern New Mexico University 2015. She became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in 2018 in Literacy: Reading and Language Arts for Early to Middle Childhood. She renewed this certification in December 2023, and has also completed training to be a Professional Learning Facilitator for the NBCT program in New Mexico, to support fellow-educators on their journeys to NBCT. She has taught kindergarten, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and 6th grade ELA in Albuquerque Public Schools, a private school, and for Taos schools for the past 19 years.
"I love my career and am grateful for the opportunity to grow and learn with Taos Charter School staff and students. I love teaching and I love learning." She recognizes the great responsibility that comes along with being an educator, and is eager to work with your children to help them grow in skill and confidence. She believes that learning is a life-long process and that we can always do and be better.
In addition to being an educator, she is a wife, mother to 5 children, and a wellness advocate. Their oldest daughter is beginning college this year, with a 5th grader, 4th grader, a 1st grader and preschooler. She is passionate about educating our children, families, and community about living a healthy lifestyle, with certifications as a fitness & nutrition coach, and most recently became a Lifestyle Coach with the CDC. She is highly involved with the community.
When she is not teaching, you will likely find her working out or watching her children participate in sports and other activities.
