TCS 8th Grader Calder Baseheart Wins New Mexico Film Prize Junior Award for Animated Film

Calder Baseheart, a Taos Charter School 8th-grade student, has been named a winner of the prestigious Film Prize Junior award for New Mexico. His winning entry, an animated film, stood out among a highly competitive field of student filmmakers from across the state.

This year’s competition featured participation from 89 schools and included a total of 206 film submissions, showcasing the creativity and talent of young filmmakers throughout New Mexico. Calder’s animation impressed judges with its (?).

Calder was supported in his filmmaking efforts by sponsoring teachers Elliot Magin and Zoe Elston, whose guidance and encouragement helped bring his vision to life.

The Film Prize Junior program celebrates emerging student filmmakers and provides a platform for young creatives to share their work with broader audiences. Calder’s achievement highlights both his dedication to the craft and the strength of arts education within his school community.
