Team FITaos 2026 News

Team FITaos is a program of Field Institute of Taos that supports FIT cycling initiatives in our community.

Welcome to another year of outdoor fun and adventures by bicycle! We are glad you're along for the ride. Please read on for news, dates, and details...

2026 Team FITaos SPONSORS WANTED!
Our sponsors logos look great on the jerseys but what really matters is that they are supporting all of our youth and community bike programs. We can't do it without you. We are so grateful to the businesses and individuals who have already committed as sponsors for 2026. THANK YOU! Our sponsors allow us to continue offering cycling opportunities and supporting junior riders. Please let Susie know ASAP if you'd like to sponsor the team...SPONSORSHIP DEADLINE TO BE INCLUDED ON THE JERSEY IS FEBRUARY 8.

We are also looking for additional sponsors for our Hooked On Racing junior mountain bike spring/summer race program. Sponsor support allows us to provide trips to at least 2 weekend races (including transportation, camping, food, and coaching). We are seeking an additional $2000 for this program.

Please contact Susie ASAP at info@fitaos.org or 575-770-2391 for more information, to chat about options, or to sponsor this program or Team FITaos.

USED BIKES WANTED!
A Special Request...We are, once again, seeking used mountain bikes for our "Building Bikes, Building Futures" program at Taos Pueblo Day School.
We are especially looking for extra small, small or medium mountain bikes that can be donated to this amazing program. Over the past few years, we have been taking donated bicycles to the Taos Day School where middle school students learn how to fix the bikes...then they get to keep the bikes. The students do all the work and learn some fantastic life skills. We are short on bikes right now and we need your support to keep the bikes and the program rolling. If you have an old bike sitting around collecting dust, please consider donating that bike to this worthy cause. Thank you!
Please contact Sean at sean.cassily@fitaos.org or Andy at andygreif60@gmail.com to donate a bike. You can also call or text Sean at 575-779-3729

Financial contributions to this program are also always welcome.

MTB COACHES WANTED!
We are looking for enthusiastic riders who are interested in coaching kids of various ages and levels (mountain bikes) during our spring after school sessions. Contact Susie or Sean for details and info on our training process. Coaching experience is not necessary but loving to ride and the ability to interact in a positive way with kids are necessary qualities...beyond that, we will teach you all you need to know. Click HERE for more info.

RACES!
The following are three website that are good resources for all types of bike races in our region. It is always super fun to camp and attend as a team! These events have categories for various ages and abilities so let’s get out there. Sign up!
www.nmcycling.org features road, gravel, mtb, enduro, and DH focusing mostly in NM.
www.heidiridesbikes.com has a comprehensive list of gravel and mtb races in CO and WY
www.ziarides.com is a NM company that produces endurance mtb races in AZ, NM, and CO.

Below are a few spring/summer races that some of us usually attend...
May 2 Alien Run Aztec, NM (MTB) Team FITaos Junior Team Attending
May 16 Charcoal Burner Hosted by our good friends, the Holms, at Vermejo Park Ranch, NM (Gravel) This race is a blast and we have a great camping location at the venue that can accommodate Team FITaos riders/friends. Just let us know if you'd like to camp with us.
May 25 Durango Iron Horse MTB race (there is also a road race and gravel race) Durango, CO Team FITaos Junior Team Attending
July 18-19 Zia Rides 24 Hours in the Enchanted Forest McGaffey, NM (MTB Endurance)
August 22-23 GloriDays Glorieta, NM (MTB Endurance) in conjunction with a NM NICA race!

A couple of races that are missing from this list include the Crested Butte Junior Race Weekend which has been canceled for 2026 due to construction and the 6 hours in the Basin (Galisteo) as they moved it super early in the season (mid-April) so we won't be making it. Here's the link for Galisteo, if you want to go: https://www.bikereg.com/6-hours-in-the-basin

Taos Composite High School and Middle School MTB Teams will happen in the fall.

Please share any races and events you're planning to attend and we will share with everyone!!!

We have adopted the Amole trails as an organization. We always do everything we can to keep trails clear and riding well when we are out there. This year, we will organize some fun trail work days in the Amole area. We utilize these trails frequently for rides with our junior as well as for our summer hiking programs so it's a good FIT! Stay tuned for a call to action. Thanks to Loren Bell and ECTA for making a huge impact on access for all on our local trails!

NEW PERIMETER TRAIL AND BIKE SKILLS AREA COMING TO FIT BASE CAMP! Thanks to a generous Trails+ grant, we are in the process of creating a trail at Base Camp. This should be completed in the spring and it will help us provide more and better opportunities for riders of all abilities, right in our Base Camp backyard.
