Taos Charter School Governing Council Elections
ROLE OF GOVERNING COUNCIL
Our Governing Council upholds the vision of our school through effective governance and performs various duties, including ethical and financial oversight, establishment of, review, and revision of broad organizational policies, employment and oversight of the school’s head administrator, and ensures accountability for the academic, financial, and organizational performance of the school.
The election of Governing Council members commences in October. The Governing Council is comprised of up to nine members: Two of the elected members of the Governing Council shall be employees of the Charter School. At least one of the elected members shall be a community member.
7-10 hours of mandatory training are required each year.
The Governing Council meets on the 3rd Tuesday at 4:00 pm of every month. Additionally, smaller committees meet throughout the year to conduct research and provide advisory input on a variety of matters relating to school business.
Elected candidates will serve the Taos Charter School community with their time and talents for a term lasting two years.

All letters of interest from candidates must be submitted by October 3, 2025. The letters should include a short bio that describes the financial, managerial, educational, legal, parental, or other experience that qualifies a candidate for the role of Governing Council. Please email your letter of interest, short bio, and contact information to sdaffron@taoscharterschool.org or submit it to the front office.
GENERAL ELECTION TIMELINE
Tuesday, October 21 – Ballots will be available in the office. Ballots will also be sent out electronically via the Chalkboard platform.
Tuesday, October 28th- Ballots are due no later than 3:00 PM.
Wednesday, October 29th- Results will be released.
ELECTION RULES
There shall be one vote per parent or legal guardian, and one vote per full-time employee (who works over 20 hours per week on average).
Ballots will be available in the office or online as a Google Form. If you choose a paper ballot, you will be asked to sign in with your name and your student’s name and drop your ballot in a locked box. If you choose a Google Form, you will be asked to include your and your child’s names on the ballot for recordkeeping.
