Taos Charter School will no longer allow Extended Absences.

There will be no approved Student Extended Learning Experience’s for extended absences during the 2026-2027school year. All absences excused or unexcused are now tracked by the NMPED as chronic absence. Chronic absence differs from truancy in that it tracks both excused and unexcused absences.

TCS shall provide interventions for students who are missing school, depending on the number of absences, tardies, or early pick up. Three tardies or early pickups will be equal to one absence. NMPED: Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing more than 10% of the school days in a year, or at least 18 days in a 180-day school calendar year.
