With nationwide funding cuts to arts education, we need your support more than ever to keep performing arts alive and thriving in northern New Mexico. Your ticket purchase helps to sustain our programming for the upcoming season, guest faculty and professional dancers, and need based scholarships for apiring dancers in our pre-professional training program at Ballet Taos Academy (BT II).
Performance begins at 7:00 PM both evenings. The ballet will open with a piece from Romeo & Juliet choreographed by Nikoloz Makhateli, set early this summer on professional guest artists, and gifted to Ballet Taos. Nikoloz is a world renowned master teacher and choreographer, also the father of the famous Maia and David Makhateli. This is a surprise performance and we're so grateful to open each evening with this profound work.
ACT I, 'A Midsummer's Night Dream'. This whimsical ballet, set to Felix Mendelssohn's timeless score tells Shakespeare's comic tragedy through movement. A tale of adventure and misadventure between a group of mortals and immortals, afflicted by the difficulties of love and being loved, learn that love prevails in the end. ''To love or be loved, that is the question.'
ACT II, 'Jock Rocks', Mr. Jock Soto debuts his latest contemporary ballet featuring the technical prowess and artistic refinement of our specifically selected new and returning guests artists. Set to his choice of a must dance playlist of 80's and 90's music, the evening concludes with excitement and hope. ART MATTERS. Be prepared, you might be invited to join us on stage for the Finale with hearts open, dancing shoes on.
Doors open at 6:00 PM with a silent auction in the Encore Gallery featuring Olga Nazarova's gorgeous photography of Ballet Taos dancers throughout the years and masterfully decorated wall art pointe shoes by Holly Scheib. Arrive early and enjoy a meet and greet with our professional guest artists as well as NMArt's Governor's award recipient and Guest Faculty/Choreographer Mr. Jock Soto, New York City Ballet. Professional dancers will be available for photo ops and signing of pointe shoes for memorable gifts to young aspiring dancers and patrons of the ballet.
